Explore some of the Sioux Falls area’s latest and greatest trends in home remodeling and landscaping at this weekend’s Showcase of Remodeled Homes.
Held Oct. 5-6 from noon to 5 p.m. and organized by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire Inc., the popular annual event will feature 10 homes in the Sioux Falls area. Tour both interior transformations and backyard makeovers, leaving with inspiration for your own home improvements of any size or scale.
“We find that people get really good ideas, including better understanding of how long a remodel actually takes,” said Alana Reinfeld of Amdahl Construction Co.
“Many people think it’s a yearlong process and they will be uprooted, and they get spooked, so it’s fun to explain that from demolition to putting the last knob on a cabinet, it can usually be more like a four-month process, especially if it’s planned well and because we’re experiencing fewer delays for materials.”
Her company will feature a home in southwest Sioux Falls at 1405 W. Mosby St.
“They’re the original owners from when it was built in the early 2000s, and it was definitely time,” Amdahl said.
They started in late 2022 by adding a mudroom and pantry, which the house didn’t have.
“Those features weren’t always thought of decades ago, so we put that on, and then the following spring, we began remodeling the whole main floor.”
That included walling off a staircase into the kitchen, removing a small angled pantry to open up the kitchen flow, adding a new front door and all new millwork, plus entirely redoing the kitchen with new finishes from top to bottom.

Finishing up the project this year, Amdahl added cabinets to enhance the home office.
“This home highlights how people are getting away from the more pure white or white oak and going with more off white, darker stains, just things that add more depth and richness,” she said.
“They went with a more transitional style.”
Throughout home remodeling, trends include “a lot of natural elements coming into the homes, handmade-looking tiles, bringing the warmth in and rooms that have their own personalities and vibe,” she added.
Through September, residential remodeling permits in Sioux Falls totaled $69.3 million, compared with $80.3 million through the first nine months of last year.
“The Sioux Falls market is performing similar to the national remodeling market, but most experts believe remodeling will bounce back as improvements in homebuilding and mortgage rates forecast improvements this fall,” said Teddi Mueller, executive vice president of HBASE.
“Remodeled living spaces are ideal for homeowners who like their current neighborhood and have no desire to move but dream of making upgrades to their home. From a new addition to expand square footage to a face-lift for the backyard, remodeling and landscaping contractors are true experts as it takes a certain skill level to properly complete these types of projects.”
If you have specific questions about the projects, the remodelers and landscapers themselves will be on location at each project during the event.
A $5 punch card grants admission for one person into all projects and can be purchased at any project location.
Route maps showing the locations of each project can be found online at showcaseofremodeledhomes.com, in the October issue of the Home Ideas magazine or by downloading the Sioux Empire HBA Event Guide App.
