Roku Expands Home Security Functions
October 15, 2024
Roku Oct. 15 announced additions to its “Smart Home” home security cameras that afford homeowners greater control from the biggest screen in the home—the TV. The streaming video pioneer is also adding functionality to medium and small screens, i.e., the phone or computer via the Web View.
New features coming this winter include “Camera Carousel,” which automatically cycles through each camera feed on the TV, using motion detection to display the camera where the action is happening.
The platform increases notifications on the phone alerting homeowners when the Roku cameras detect events, Users will have the option to get the notifications directly on the TV. Users will also be able to monitor all camera feeds from one centralized location on any computer or web device.
Roku Smart Home users can already view live streams of their cameras and video doorbells from any Roku TV or player, use their voice remote to dim or change the color of the lights, and more. The Camera Carousel, Smart Home Web View, and additional notifications will become available for free with automatic software updates.
All these features are available for all Roku Smart Home camera and doorbell products, including the Floodlight Camera, Video Doorbell, Wire-free Video Doorbell and Chime, Indoor 360 Camera, Outdoor Wire-free Camera, and the Indoor and Outdoor Wired Camera SE.
Roku Smart Home products are certified by ioXt Alliance, the global standard for connected devices. Additional security capabilities include two-factor authentication (2FA), user data encryption, secure boot, and other advanced protection settings.
