How to Decorate for Fall With a 0 Budget

Changing up your decor from season to season can be fun, but sticking to a strict budget can often pose a problem. Luckily, experts say that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to make some festive home decor upgrades for the cozy season.

In fact, we gave five interior designers a $150 budget and asked them what fall decor swaps they would make with that money. Even better, you can shop all of their home decor ideas right on Amazon.

As interior designer and home stager at Rowhome Design, Ana Cvetkovic puts it, “Fall is all about embracing cooler weather and coziness.” And how do you go about creating this vibe without overspending? She says there’s “nothing better than candles for setting the mood for staying in.” She likes Wolaoja Iron Candlestick Holders because they “bring the drama,” and their slightly imperfect shape makes them look more handmade than the average candlestick holder.” For safety, consider using the GenSwinFlameless Tapered Candles.

Another “easy” swap Cvetkovic recommends is your couch and bedding pillow covers. Specifically, she loves the Ridhi Block Print Pillow Covers because the “foliage pattern is perfect for the season without being kitschy, while the terracotta color adds visual warmth to your home.” Even better, they’re reversible, making it easy to change things up. Top off your cozy space with the Eddie Bauer Throw in a classic tartan pattern for “a classy upgrade on plaids.”

Ashley Bruggeman, the senior designer at Ashley Morgan Interiors, is all about creating a warm and inviting environment this season. She suggests starting with the ultra-cozy MeJeewool Wool Throw. This wool blanket not only looks great draped over a couch or across an ottoman, but “it’ll also keep you warm indoors and outdoors through the fall.” Plus, what’s not to love about the “classic geometric design and roomy size?”

Next, give your coffee table a minor update with Xigexige’s Decorative Serving Tray, which she adores because it’s “simple and stylish.” This tray comes in two different sizes. “The smaller size is great for smaller surfaces like a side table, and the large size provides ample room to lay out books, a candle or two, and a small lamp on an ottoman,” she explains. Luckily, the gorgeous Winecraft Glass Cloche will fit both sizes. According to Bruggeman, “Displaying the candle next to a glass match cloche adds a touch of sophistication while also providing the functional use of storing your matches.”

This season is all about “rich tones and textures,” according to Kerrie Kelly, CEO and creative director at Kerrie Kelly Studio. So, swapping your current pillow covers for Foindtower Linen Fringe Throw Pillow Covers will quickly “bring warmth to a sofa or bed without a big commitment.” Plus, a blanket like Bigacogo’s Chunky Knit Throw “not only adds texture, but [also] invites coziness.” “Draped on a chair or sofa, this piece softens the space and ties the look together,” she adds.

Put some focus on your tablescape as well with Clusivc’s moody set of Stemless Wine Glasses in a fall hue like amber. Kelly enjoys how they “instantly add a warm glow and seasonal charm to any tablescape.” You can even give your charcuterie boards a fall update with hand-carved organic-looking dipping bowls, like Lavaux Designs’ Acacia Wood Bowl Set. Kelly adds that she “loves layering greens across a mantel or dining table” for a “fall look without worrying about leaves drying or shedding,” and you can’t go wrong with the DearHouse 2-Piece Artificial Eucalyptus Garland Set.

Autumn means adding warm, earthy tones and natural textures to your home, at least interior designer at Planner 5D, Alice Moszczynski, thinks so. The Socomi Table Runner will “make everyday meals feel a little more special and act as the foundation for layering candles, flowers, and other seasonal decor.” You can also try the Miulee Corduroy Pillow Covers “to refresh your space without committing to a full redesign.”

“A pumpkin-scented candle is a little seasonal indulgence that brings instant coziness,” she tells us. Beyond scent, the glow of the Yankee Candle Spiced Pumpkin Large Jar Candle “adds warmth and ambiance.” Don’t forget about adding some Anproor Dried Pampas Grass around your home. “It’s a fall favorite because it adds texture, height, and softness all at once,” she explains. Additionally, “it pairs beautifully with ceramic or glass vases and lasts far longer than fresh flowers, giving you that seasonal look with little maintenance.” They’ll look chic placed in Lvases’ Snuggle Hollow Ceramic Vase.

She also recommends “adding a fun touch to fall decorating” with Super Holiday’s Velvet Pumpkins. “I love using them as bowl fillers or scattered across mantels and shelves, where their soft texture and rich colors can tie a whole vignette together,” she shares. “Keeping cozy throws close at hand for when the temperature dips” is essential, so try the Kakamay Large Woven Basket for hiding clutter.

Set the tone for the cooler season with Zwjd’s super-soft chenille Throw Pillow Covers to “make your sofa feel even more inviting to curl up on,” says Joyce Huston, co-founder and lead interior designer at Decorilla. She tells us that serving trays can play multiple roles in the home, especially when it comes to decor. “I love trays to place candles and other small decorations on,” she explains.

The Decrafts Hand-Woven Rattan Serving Tray is made from natural materials, which “are perfect for a cozy fall look” and “creating a magical atmosphere” by crafting a unique display on your coffee table. “I know faux flowers and plants aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I think the low-maintenance and the fact that they maintain their colors is a huge plus,” Huston notes. The Hollyone Faux Pampas Grass With Vase is not only visually appealing but also long-lasting. “I love styling faux fall plants in ceramic or clay vases,” she suggests.
