Home security company says these 10 Mississippi cities are most dangerous in the state
Do you feel safe in your city? A home safety and security company has used crime data to determine the most dangerous cities in Mississippi.
According to Reolink, they used the most recent available data from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and the FBI. They also considered city profiles from Neighborhood Scout and Best Places.
From there, analysts weighed “violent attacks, break‑ins, and car thefts against each city’s population.” Using a per-1,000-people approach made sure the comparisons were “apples-to-apples.”
No. 1 might surprise you.
All four neighboring states also had cities top the security company’s list of the most dangerous in America.
According to Reolink, whether it’s a large city or a tiny town, “the stats show clear patterns: violent crime clusters in economic stress zones, and property crime follows unlocked cars and dimly lit porches.”
Here’s what you need to know about which Magnolia State towns Reolink says are the most dangerous and why.
Which Mississippi city is considered the most dangerous?
“Fresh 2025 numbers show about 1,000 violent crimes and nearly 5,000 property crimes for every 100,000 people in Laurel—more than any other city in the state. So, while Jackson makes headlines for murders, the overall risk of being robbed, assaulted, or having your car stolen is greatest in Laurel” Reolink wrote.
The analysts noted that violent offenses are five times the state average at 10.2 per 1,000 residents. General crime data shows about 60 per 1,000 residents, and car thieves “stay busy.”
“Rapes, assaults, and break‑ins cluster near downtown and older mill neighborhoods, fueled by low wages and drug traffic,” according to Reolink.

What’s the safest city in Mississippi?
According to Reolink, FBI data shows Madison is the safest city in the state. It has about 7 crimes per 1,000 people.
They attribute the success to “active neighborhood watch groups” and “active neighborhood watch groups and well‑funded policing.”
Are there places I should avoid to stay safe?
“Travelers should steer clear of late‑night side streets in Laurel, Jackson’s Farish Street Historic District after 10 p.m., and Pascagoula’s Denny Avenue motels,” Reolink advised.
They also pointed out high-theft areas near casinos in Natchez and Vicksburg.
