1. Muted, Nature-Inspired Colors
Designer Sanda Stojakovic says 2025 was the year of deep wood tones set against neutral backgrounds. But for 2026, she predicts color will start making a subtle comeback via muted, nature-inspired hues. These are the hues that almost act as neutrals, but aren’t.
If you want to hop on this trend, she suggests incorporating the following colors into your home:
- dusty green
- soft or deep blue
- ochre
- warm brown
“They bring calm and depth to a room while still allowing for color expression,” she says. “This is great news for people who want to experiment with color but prefer spaces that feel soothing rather than energizing.”

2. Rich and Moody Colors
Designer Nadia Watts also agrees that neutrals have dominated living room designs in recent years. Still, she has a slightly different prediction that will appeal to people who are ready to get brave with color.
“After years of pared-back color, people are craving spaces that feel expressive and personal,” she says. “Jewel tones instantly make a room feel more intimate and vibrant, which is exactly the mood so many of us are longing for.”
She specifically suggests experimenting with cool jewel tones like deep greens, saturated blues, and aubergine through paint. Then, balance it out with warm neutrals on tactile surfaces like your drapes and upholstery.
3. Tiled Coffee Tables
One upcoming living room trend designer Erin Sander is really leaning into is the tiled coffee table. In one recent project, she drew up plans for a custom coffee table with a ceramic-tile top resting on a sleek black base.
“[Tile] brings layered color and texture, adding interest to large coffee tables,” she says. “Books, flowers, and objects will love sitting atop a rich, textured surface.”
When choosing tile for your coffee table top, consider pulling inspiration from the colors already present in your living room. If you aren’t able to find one that fits, follow Sander’s lead and commission one from a local fabricator or try your hand at a DIY one.

4. Soft and Sculptural Furniture Silhouettes
After years of a modern future with its straight, simple lines in vogue, Watts says she’s noticing clients gravitating more towards pieces that showcase rounded edges and greater intricacy.
“We are moving toward silhouettes that feel soft and sculptural, like curved sofas, arched backs, and pieces that almost read as art,” she says.
5. Game Tables
Ever since the COVID shutdowns, society has rediscovered a love for games and puzzles. It turns out these wholesome activities have staying power, and the passion is only growing stronger, taking on a life of its own.
That’s why Sander says we’ll be seeing a lot more game tables pop up in large living rooms. “The rise in popularity of Mahjong and card games is palpable, and our clients want a luxe space to entertain their guests as well as play their games,” she says.
Any table that fits with your current living room style and floor plan can become a beautiful spot for gaming. Just make sure it’s an appropriate height so you can comfortably view the surface when seated.
6. Nostalgic and Meaningful Decor
Stojakovic says 2026 living room design is trending towards highly personalized spaces that tell the story of homeowners. Think mixed patterns and favorite colors, pieces collected from travels, and objects that bring nostalgia.
“With the rapid rise of AI and automation, I believe people will crave more individuality and authenticity at home,” she says. “We’re surrounded by polished, standardized answers all day, and that can wear on people. Coming home to a space that feels curated and personal will be therapeutic.”
