Zero 2 is an Energy-Neutral Smart Home Designed with Health and Wellness at Its Core

A collaboration between zero-carbon home company Marisol Malibu and DSI, this home sets a new benchmark for health, wellness and energy efficiency. This incredible property, dubbed Zero 2, features home automation technology from DSI, as well as the latest wellness technologies including air and water purification systems, circadian lighting and smart home automation.

“This remarkable home goes beyond luxury, incorporating sustainability at its core,” says Eric Thies, CEO at DSI, whose team are no strangers to developing incredible, zero-carbon smart home builds.

Going beyond simple efficiencies, the home’s sustainability initiatives feature solar panels, energy storage and organic gardens making it a modern eco-living model. It’s also designed to evolve with the owners needs with systems like Josh.ai voice control being able to better learn and understand owners routines so the system adapts to their lifestyle and preferences.

Zero 2 Delivers on an Intuitive, Health-Focused Home Experience

One of the biggest challenges was to integrate a building management system for each health and wellness technology without compromising the look of the home. Not to mention, the client’s requirement for an energy neutral home also posed its own challenge.

To address the latter, DSI maximized efficiency for health, comfort and wellness with an adaptive control system that monitors all the home systems at once. Concealed smart sensors adjust setpoints, lighting scenes and power profiles based on room usage or overall occupancy. This ensures an energy efficient environment that responds to the occupants needs while optimizing comfort and health. It also requires minimal input from the homeowner.

Crestron automation processors were integrated with Lutron lighting and shading systems for energy efficiency. The alarm system provides real time feedback on door and window status so the HVAC system can adjust and conserve energy. Occupancy sensors further optimize lighting and HVAC control by turning off energy in unoccupied rooms.

Load shedding is also adaptive so energy consumption is reduced during extended periods of absence whether the owners are away for the day or the season. This adaptive system ensures Zero 2 is comfortable, energy efficient and responsive to the owners needs a home like no other.
