Do you feel safe in your home? Most of the 10 safest cities in Mississippi show decreases in violent crime, including gun-related incidents.

Home safety and security site SafeWise determined most secure cities in each state using FBI crime data. In total, 35 towns qualified for ranking. Some cities either didn’t meet the population threshold for the report or didn’t file a full crime report with the FBI in 2023.

Petal was the safest city for the second year running, and all 10 on the list were also on the list last year.

SafeWise also surveyed Mississippi residents. They noted people were less likely to have experienced a violent crime in the eight months prior to answering the survey. About 72% of respondents thought crime rates were rising, which was the highest percentage in the country.

About 54% of people in Mississippi said they felt safe, which is just over the national average of 48%.

Petal and Madison had no reported rapes, murders or robberies. SafeWise noted that data for the 10 safest cities indicate decreases in property crime and violent crime. There could, however, be an uptick in package theft.

Property crime in the Magnolia State, according to the company, is one of the lowest rates in the U.S.

All cities except Clinton had less violent crime than in the prior year.
