Man allegedly steals 5K Cadillac Escalade, owner says home security cameras shut off

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WKRC) – A man was arrested after he allegedly stole a Cadillac Escalade.

According to WPLG, 23-year-old Alexis Jose Ruiz was taken into custody on Friday after he was accused of stealing a 2026 Cadillac Escalade from a home in Miami-Dade, Florida.

Per the report, deputies responded to the home at around 7:40 a.m. and spoke to the vehicle’s owner, who said he woke up to find his Cadillac had vanished from the driveway overnight.

The man said that he had locked the SUV and added that the vehicle was valued at approximately $135,000 and that he was still in possession of both sets of keys.

Arrest documents reviewed by WPLG reportedly state that the victim’s home security cameras stopped working around the time the vehicle disappeared from the driveway, with the victim telling authorities that the devices stopped working at exactly 6:15 a.m. that night.

Law enforcement said the disruption appeared to be consistent with possible signal-jamming technology, with the outlet noting that the report contained no verification that such a device was recovered during the investigation. Authorities were able to obtain data that placed the suspect near the victim’s home at around 6:22 p.m. that day, and investigators determined that the vehicle was stolen using a computer that had programmed a new vehicle key.

A detective assigned to the sheriff’s office Midwest Auto Theft Unit contacted investigators about Ruiz on September 26, after the suspect was reportedly arrested following a hit-and-run with injuries. Authorities reportedly wrote that Ruiz was behind the wheel of a stolen BMW when the incident occurred, then fled the scene on foot.

Ruiz was located and arrested on the following charges, per the report:

  • Unauthorized interference with radio transmission
  • Offenses against computer users

He was taken to the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center, where he was held without bond, according to the report, which further states that he faces charges of grand theft of a vehicle, racketeering and possession of burglary tools in connection with separate cases.

Ruiz was out on probation at the time of his arrest, WPLG reported.

The report notes that Ruiz was previously arrested in connection with the 2023 theft of $20,000 in GPS equipment from boats at Complete Marine, which is located in Pompano Beach. Ruiz, Hansen Hernandez and Carlos Scorro were arrested on the following charges:

The stolen equipment was never recovered, per the report.
