It goes above the lights and the locks and the awareness and motion activated lighting,” Katt said.John Lindberg, president of Dial One Security Systems, explained the common problem with security systems.”I think it’s very common for equipment to be hung up on someone’s house. And it may work initially, but then a year later, they discontinue a subscription, or they power the unit down, or they just don’t think about it and it falls off of the network or falls off the Wi-Fi and it’s nonfunctional,” Lindberg said.The abduction of Guthrie serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring security systems are active and accessible. “It kind of drives like awareness and whether their porch cameras are active and working and if they have access to them,” Lindberg said.Local crimes involving Chilean organized gangs, including a break-in at the home of Bengals QB Joe Burrow, have similarly underscored the need for functional security systems. “There’s a lot of, things that these groups did, in Cincinnati that were, were the same mode of operation, you know, house after house after house,” Lindberg said.Recovered images from these incidents are providing breakthroughs in cases that have captured public attention. Experts advise purchasing simple, user-friendly systems to ensure they are used effectively.
